The United States’ deep ties with Israel and the evolving relationship between the two countries has broad ramifications that range from the local political to the geostrategic. In this panel discussion, hosted by the Institute for Palestine Studies, four experts will explore the evolution of Republican and Democratic Party positions on Israel and Palestine, Congress as an actor in shaping U.S. foreign policy, how U.S. policy toward Israel and the Palestine question impacts broader U.S. national interests, and the influence of Islamophobia and the role of the Evangelical community in shaping U.S. policy. This discussion comes at an important time in the 2016 presidential election race and touches on the latest issues related to American policy on Israel and Palestine and what changes we might expect to see in American policy towards Israel. Liberation Graphics: Interview with Dan Walsh of the Palestine Poster Project Archives

Palestine Poster Project Archives founder and curator Dan Walsh has spent decades amassing the largest collection of Palestine posters. The standard is simple: any poster in any language from any time period and any source with the word Palestine is added. From the earliest known poster, an 1898 French tourism poster illustrating Bethlehem, to Zionist posters in the 1920s and ‘30s, to posters distributed by Palestinian liberation groups in the 1960s and ’70, the collection numbers over 10,000 and grows with old and new contributions every year. Walsh has organized the archive as a free and accessible tool for researchers, journalists and anyone interested in the history of Palestine. In acknowledgment of his efforts, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) is currently considering a special collection of 1,700 posters within the archives for recognition as part of their Memory of the World program. August 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I, when major armed conflict first began in then-Ottoman Palestine. The consequence has been a century of violence,overwhelmingly at the cost of Palestinian lives. Featuring commentaries by Institute for Palestine Studies scholars including Edward Said, Journal of Palestine Studies Editor Rashid Khalidi, IPS Secretary General Walid Khalidi and Senior Fellow Mouin Rabbani. The Human Cost of Israel's Assaults on Gaza

Host Omar Baddar sits down with Amer Shurrab, a Palestinian from Khan Yunis, Gaza who has lost six of his family members as a result of Israeli attacks on Gaza since 2009. Amer recounts the story of his two brothers who were shot and killed by Israeli soldiers during Operation Cast Lead in 2009. The most recent attacks on Gaza have left three of his cousins dead and his family farm destroyed. Amer is currently a masters student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California. He is also a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, USA. Nidal Bitari, founder of the Palestinian Association of Human Rights in Syria, speaks with host Omar Baddar about the tragic humanitarian situation in the Yarmouk Camp in Damascus, Syria. Nidal highlights the plight of the close to 20,000 Palestinian civilians still remaining inside the camp. Nidal Bitari is a Syrian Palestinian journalist from Yarmuk refugee camp in Damascus. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in political sociology from Damascus University. He left Syria for Lebanon in December 2011, and then came to the United States in April 2013.
